Lady Flames traveling to Plano for playoff game against Corem Deo
The Faith Academy of Marble Falls softball team is headed to the playoffs thanks to finishing third in District 3 Division III.
The Lady Flames will meet Plano Corem Deo at 6 p.m. Friday, May 6, at the Z-Plex Texas Sports Villiage, 4220 E Melissa Road in Melissa.
Faith head coach Delaney Ferguson noted her players embraced the importance of individually improving every day and are now reaping the rewards of that commitment.
“I do think we’ve come a long ways,” she said. “All of them have come a long ways individually and as a team.”
That includes learning multiple positions to improve defensively, making routine plays for outs, and committing to being in the batting cages to get better at hitting the ball.
The coach singled out Kailey Van Gundy for making the most strides the last several weeks.
“She is definitely the player who has come the farthest,” Ferguson said. “She can hit the ball. We started her in the outfield. She’s now moved to the infield. She’s playing second base.”
Pitcher Jaedyn Hart also is performing well, the coach said, noting the pitcher has embraced the grind that comes with being in the circle.
“She has improved from the beginning because of all the practice,” she said. “She is one who will get us through the game. She lets our infield do the work.”
One key to the Lady Flames’ success has been the commitment to communicate, Ferguson said, which only gotten better.
“They’re good at talking,” she said. “They’re still doing a very good job of communicating.”
The batting continues to be a strength led by MacKenzie Fromberg, who has the highest batting average on the team.
“The top of our lineup is always our strongest,” Ferguson said. “I do feel very confident with it. I feel like people underestimate us. Getting out of district and making the playoffs is a big deal.”
